The First iPhone Prototype Looked More Like a PC Than a Smartphone

Announced on January 9, 2009 by Steve Jobs, Apple's original iPhone changed the face of the mobile phone industry. Now,
what it says are photos of the original iPhone M68 prototype board that looks more like a traditional PC motherboard than the circuit boards typically used in smartphones.

According to the report, the board was developed by Apple as an engineering validation test (EVT) sample and is said to have been used by engineers working on the software and radio portions of the original iPhone.

As can be seen from the images, the board contains a SIM card slot, two antennas for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and various other I/O ports and sockets, including a marked RJ11 port for landline phones. Also visible are a Samsung K4X1G153PC memory, a 620MHz ARM processor (ARM1176JZF), a Samsung NAND card (K9HBG08U1M) and other components.
