Stadia Won't Support Offline Game Downloads

Google's Stadia game streaming platform will not support offline downloads, which automatically makes it a hard sell for casual gamers without a high-speed connection.

Speaking to GameSpot, Google VP Phil Harrison, who presented most of Stadia at the GDC keynote, said the offline game downloads are "not technically possible." He added: "It would be a compromise of our vision if we were to do that."

It also explains why Google didn't release console hardware along with the Stadia Game Controller. Without offline downloads, there's no need for dedicated hardware including internal storage as seen in the PS4 or Xbox One X.
